Around the town

Thanks to some friendly couchsurfers I borrowed a bike! It makes getting around soo much easier. I love to bike around and explore the city.

Little side alleys that lead to hidden churches and fountains. To areas where there are houses being torn down to make way for roads and those that are holding out to live there.

Cabanyal is a barrio that is being systematically destroyed to make room for a road extension and luxury hotels and apartments. The people of the area, mostly gypsies are obviously upset and there are murals and graffiti to show it. They can't really leave their homes though because otherwise the waiting bulldozers will roll...

The beach is nice but it reminds me of Waikiki, too many people not enough peace.
The mediterranean is warm very warm but lacks any waves. A sad situation for a pirate who loves to surf.

So my idea is to travel to Morocco and catch some surf in Rabat!

But first I got to Ibiza on Monday!

There is great art everywhere which I enjoy like this fountain of un barco (boat)

Here I am next to one of the ever present glass recycling containers that are scattered though the city. As you might be able to notice if you look closely I've upgraded it with one of my Maui Pirate stickers...

Valencia

Well here I am in Valencia, four days into my round the world adventure.
I've met great people and seen some uncommon sides of Valencia.

Today I was at the Rio de Turia. Once it was a river but constant flooding caused the city to divert and fill it in making it a giant park that snakes through the city.

A huge Carnival was set up in one part complete with ferris wheel, bingo and donkey rides.

Now I must decide what is next... Ibiza or Morocco... I like the feel of Valencia but I think I need to explore more of Spain.

¡Fiesta Las Animas!

My hosts Patricia and Leo are fantastic. They both have a spark for life that exceeds the norm.

I´ve been getting used to the local custom of afternoon siestas late night dinners then fiesta until 8 in the morning! I was up 3 days with maybe 4 hours of sleep total!

For the last two nights I went to Las Animas a club where Leo is a bartender.
Before going to the club (at 4am) you first party on the beach and tailgate in the parking lot. We were walking along the beach and what did we find? A fiesta de Rugby! There was free beer and a DJ set up right on the beach all set up under a big tent. I got to talking and met Carlos and several other friendly rugby players. They invited me and the girls I was with back the next day to watch them play. It was hard to pass up the invitation but it was soo easy to sleep for several hours after so many hours awake.

Arrived Safely in Valencia

I am here in one piece. Almost missed each flight it was quite a fun adventure in the airports. Unfortunately one piece is all that I am.. My backpack had a longer layover in Madrid than I did. They say it will be in Valencia tomorrow. I´m going to the airport to find it!

I´ll keep you posted and write more about the adventure when I catch my breath.

Takeoff!

Ok well I thought you'd like a picture before I left!

Peace and love

I'm on the plane!

Here it is, my first international flight! I'm excited and a bit wary of the 18 hour commute ahead.

It shouldn't be so bad, I've got snacks and reading material and a couple movies to watch...
My flight was scheduled for the 4th as it would be my independence from the country. I changed my flight though as there was more fun to have in the states!
Here I go!

Aloha!
